The last month has been filled with events geared toward providing support for our older adult population in Oakland County.
We’ve participated in two senior expos where we’ve connected with hundreds of our older residents in West Bloomfield and Southfield, a senior summit hosted by Sen. Jeremy Moss on Monday and another one on the books for later this week in Pontiac. And we are wrapping up our senior expos for the year in Royal Oak next month.
We met people like Dean in West Bloomfield, who is leading an active, purposeful life well into his 90s. We also met Marlene in Southfield, who was looking for housing and care options for an elderly sibling.
Whether someone needed help or just wanted to chat for a moment, we appreciated having the opportunity to provide the resources and personal connections they were looking for because we’re committed to serving the needs of all our residents, especially the older adults who have contributed so much to our families, neighborhoods and communities.
These senior summits and expos also allow us to hear from you on the issues that are important to your lives, whether it’s how to get the essential services you or your loved ones need to gaining information about the availability of upcoming flu and COVID vaccine shots.
The county is improving and expanding the services we offer to older adults to help make sure that there are opportunities for older residents to live their best lives, full of friends, family, laughter and activity.
Here are just a few of the services and programs we offer for older adults:
-
Investing $5 million in grants to 29 senior centers across Oakland County to do everything from upgrade kitchens and expand nutrition programs to improving and expanding recreational, sports and parks activities and purchasing laptops and charging stations as well as safety and security upgrades.
-
Creating the office Older Adult Services that is a resource for the older population in Oakland to make sure you know about all the great local, state and federal resources that are available for seniors. You can reach them at 248-858-0593.
