Oakland County Land Bank Authority: Exciting Projects Transforming Communities
As part of our ongoing commitment to revitalizing Oakland County, we are excited to share updates on two transformative Oakland County Land Bank Authority (OCLBA) projects that underscore our mission to enhance the quality of life in our communities.
Demolition of McCarroll School: A New Youth Recreation Center on the Horizon
In collaboration with the City of Pontiac and the State Land Bank Authority, the demolition of the long-abandoned McCarroll School is underway and was announced at a press conference on July 31, 2024, making way for a state-of-the-art Youth Recreation Center. Supported by a $500,000 Blight Elimination grant from the State Land Bank Authority, this project is a pivotal step in revitalizing the community.
 1) McCarroll School, 2) Pontiac Mayor Tim Greimel, State Land Bank Authority Director Joseph Rivet and Oakland County Treasurer and OCLBA Chairman Robert Wittenberg, 3) Youth Recreation and Enrichment Manager Tanesha Taylor, 4) Pontiac City Council members, State Rep. Brenda Carter, OCLBA Executive Director Jill Robinson, Pontiac Parks and Recreation Director Tarrance Price, and 5) Robert Wittenberg.
The new Youth Recreation Center will offer many youth-focused programs, modern facilities, and community opportunities. From academic support to sports and fitness programs, the center will be a cornerstone for youth engagement and a hub for community activities, ensuring that the legacy of McCarroll School as a place of learning and growth continues.

Casa Del Rey Redevelopment: Breathing New Life into Historic Structures
The Oakland County Land Bank Authority (OCLBA) has also played a key role in redeveloping the historic Casa Del Rey building in Pontiac. After owning the property for over a decade, the Oakland County Treasurer’s Office transferred it to the OCLBA to facilitate its sale to Coleman Allen LLC.
The OCBLA’s strategic sale of the property to Coleman Allen LLC, owned by Ronita and Gregory Coleman, and its guidance in navigating the complexities of financing and approvals have been instrumental in bringing this project to life. As a result, a once-vacant building is now set to become a thriving residential community, furthering OCLBA’s mission to create vibrant, productive spaces across Oakland County.
The Casa Del Rey project is a testament to the power of collaboration between state, county, and local governments and the development community. This project preserves a part of Pontiac's history and contributes to the community's economic revitalization and sustainable development.

ABOUT THE OCLBA: These projects reflect the Oakland County Land Bank Authority’s dedication to transforming vacant, abandoned, and underutilized properties into vibrant spaces that foster sustainable development and revitalization through collaboration and community engagement to support communities across Oakland County.
