Join our educational kayaking adventure
Want to learn more about the environment all around us? Register for Full Stream Ahead, a guided kayak program that combines kayaking with a nature talk at Groveland Oaks and Addison Oaks county parks.
This program is recommended for ages 18 and older and is limited to eight participants per session. Participants are expected to know how to operate a kayak. Topics include:
- July 13, 9-10 a.m. at Groveland Oaks - Underwater Cities: Biology. Discover what aquatic plants and animals inhabit freshwaters throughout the county. Below the surface of freshwater resources there is abundant life and participants will learn how these organisms thrive and interact to make vibrant ecosystems
- July 27, 9-10 a.m. at Addison Oaks - Underwater Cities: Biology. Discover what aquatic plants and animals inhabit freshwaters throughout the county. Below the surface of freshwater resources there is abundant life and participants will learn how these organisms thrive and interact to make vibrant ecosystems
- Aug. 10, 9-10 a.m. at Groveland Oaks - Underwater Cities: Habitat. Uncover what components make up an underwater world. Vegetation, wood, sediment and water all make up the building blocks of aquatic habitat. Discussions will focus on why habitat is important, and how habitats are affected by urbanization and development
- Aug. 24, 9-10 a.m. at Addison Oaks - Underwater Cities: Habitat. Uncover what components make up an underwater world. Cost is $10/person. Park entry fee is not included. Oakland County residents ages 62 and older can apply for a free vehicle permit at OaklandCountyParks.com.

Addison Oaks County Park
Addison Oaks is a 1,140-acre natural oasis close to home where visitors can recreate for the day, camp under the stars or explore the park’s rich history. Campers can stay on individual sites or in group camping areas, yurts or cabins. Activities include a 20+ mile trail system for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and winter fat tire biking; boat/kayak and bike rentals, 18-hole disc golf course, fishing, geocaching, picnicking and group picnic shelters. A 2.5-mile connector trail connects the main park to Addison Oaks-East and other nearby recreation areas. The Historic Tudor-style Buhl Estate hosts weddings, banquets, receptions and business meetings, with food service by Oak Management and can be reached at 248-693-8305.

Groveland Oaks County Park
Groveland Oaks is located on Stewart Lake just 1.5 miles east of I-75 “exit 101” in northern Oakland County. Large 50’ x 50’ full hookup and modern campsites, group camping areas, eight cabins, four yurts and two Island pavilions for group parties. Park features Stewart Lake, a sandy beach, miniature golf, campground recreation program, pedal boat and kayak rental, bike rental, fishing pier, three large children’s playscapes, skateboard park, bike skills course, basketball and volleyball courts and paved trails.
