Register today for May nature programming

Spring is a fabulous time to get outdoors and explore the paths and programming at Red Oaks Nature Center. Register below to learn intriguing facts about trees, birds, animals and more shared by our own expert naturalists. Located in Madison Heights, Red Oaks Nature Center provides many opportunities for individuals and families to enjoy the trails and involved in nature discovery this season:

  • Register to join a guided hike from 10-10:45 a.m. Friday, May 17 during A Walk in the Woods. A naturalist will lead an informative hike during which participants will learn about seasonal topics while getting some exercise and enjoying the great outdoors. Dress for the weather. The program is free.
  • Bees are crucial for human survival. Don’t ā€œbee-lieveā€ us? Come learn more about these important insects that are responsible for most of our food and economy during the Make Your Own Bee Hotel program from 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18. Also, make an eco-friendly bee hotel. An American Sign Language interpreter will be provided. Cost is $5/person.Ā

Red OaksĀ Nature Center is nestled in 37-acre Friendship Woods, which offers an outdoor component for family nature programs. The center’s interior includes native live animals, displays and classroom space. A 1.3-mile paved trail is used for programs and local residents to hike, bike and walk. The sensory trail features a storybook trail. Year-round educational programs presented by park naturalists are available to the public.Ā American Sign Language interpreters are available during specific programs as noted on the Nature Education Program Schedule.Ā Braille is included on the animal displays.Ā Specialized nature programs include in person and virtual field trips, naturalist-led hikes and Wild Birthday Parties. Community Outreach Programs include nature presentations and nature information and touch tables. StarLab inflatable planetarium can be booked either at the nature center or as an outreach program.
