There’s lots of activities planned for May at Wint
May is a wonderful time to get outdoors and explore natural wonders at Wint Nature Center. From wetlands and walks to meditation sessions, there is plenty for all ages to enjoy and discover. Join our naturalists and others in the community for these educational and wellness programs:
- Children ages 3-6 can enjoy nature fun as they increase their love for the outdoors during the Puddle Jumpers program from 10:30-11:30 a.m. May 10. A naturalist will engage children with a story, nature talk and a related hands-on activity. Each child will make a craft to take home. May’s theme is Incredible Insects. Cost is $5/child.
- Have an un-bee-lievable time learning about bees and other pollinating insects during the Homeschool Series Program To Bee or Not to Bee from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. May 15. We’ll discuss the importance of bees, how to help protect them and make a bee-utiful craft. Homeschool sessions are adapted for two age groups: Ages 6-9 and ages 10-13. Cost is $10/child/session. Sessions are designed as a drop-off program for youth. All students are welcome, including those from a traditional homeschool, pod or virtual learning setting. A release form must be completed with registration.
- Join us for a “fen-tastic” day of discovering the mind “bog-gling” wetland habitats in your own backyard during the Wander through the Wetlands program from 1-2:30 p.m. May 18. Learn about these unique areas and the plants and animals who live there through a guided exploration of Independence Oaks County Park. Cost is $5/person.
- Following the moon cycle connects us with nature in a meaningful way. Enjoy a mini hike, cozy fire and calming meditation during the Full Flower Moon Meditation & Bonfire program from 8-9 p.m. May 18. No meditation experience necessary. This program is appropriate for ages 7 and older. Dress for the weather. Cost is $5/person.
- Register for a free, naturalist-guided nature hike during A Walk In the Woods from 10-10:45 a.m. May 24. Participants will learn about seasonal topics while getting exercise and enjoying the great outdoors. Please, no pets. Park entry fee applies.
Preregistration with payment required by calling 248-858-0916 weekdays or 248-625-6473 during nature center hours or register online anytime.
