Dear Immunization Partners,

Please share the following information with staff and colleagues.

On March 8, 2024, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Division of Immunization sent an email message titled: Update to the Interim Clinical Considerations Use of COVID-19 Vaccines in the United States. As an addendum to that email, providers need to be aware that the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) does not currently reflect this updated COVID-19 vaccine recommendation for people 65 years and older. At this time, the updated recommendation will not be included in the March MCIR release due to competing priorities. We will let you know once MCIR is programmed to reflect this updated recommendation. Providers should follow the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendation noted below from the March 8, 2024, email message.

March 8, 2024, Email Message:

On February 28, 2024, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) voted in favor of recommending adults ages 65 years and over should receive an additional updated 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine dose. These recommendations were adopted by the CDC Director and became official on February 28, 2024. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated the Interim Clinical Considerations Use of COVID-19 Vaccines in the United States, to reflect these recommendations on March 1, 2024.

  • All people ages 65 years and older should receive 1 additional dose of any updated (2023–2024 Formula) COVID-19 vaccine (i.e., Moderna, Novavax, Pfizer-BioNTech). For detailed guidance, see Table 1and Table 2.
  • Updated information for reporting adverse events to VAERS following administration of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Thank you for all you do to protect Michiganders from vaccine preventable diseases.
