Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Trade Mission to Automotive Meetings Queretaro
Feb. 20 - 24, 2024
Join the Michigan International Trade Program for a trade mission to Mexico’s only automotive supply chain event based on pre-arranged meetings. Automotive Meetings Queretaro is the only structured matchmaking event in Mexico that gives auto suppliers the opportunity to build and strengthen business relationships through more than 12,000 face-to-face meetings with potential OEM and Tier 1 customers. Abdallah, Administrator Emerging Growth & Innovation, joined Team Michigan on the trip which includes strategic partners: Governor Gretchen Whitmer, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Detroit Regional Partnership and Battle Creek Unlimited. The Automotive Industry is Changing. Are you Ready?
Through our partnership with the Global Epicenter for Mobility (GEM) the University of Michigan's Economic Growth Institute (EGI) has recently launched the Advanced Mobility Supply Chain Transformation Center (STC) to assist small to medium size manufacturers in the greater Detroit region transform as EVs, autonomous vehicles, and advanced manufacturing shape the future of mobility. The STC will assess manufacturers' business needs and provide up to $100,000 in matching funds to support technical assistance projects for qualifying companies.
Program Eligibility Requirements:
- Less than 500 employees
- Operations in Genesee, Lapeer, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Shiawassee, St. Clair, Washtenaw, or Wayne County
- At least 10% of annual business revenue from the mobility sector currently or within the past 5 years

Michigan Girls Future Flight Challenge
Women of Aerospace Industry Association of Michigan (WAIAM) is holding our second annual Michigan Girls Future Flight Challenge (MGFFC): a virtual, free, state-wide aerospace competition for girls in 4th-8th grade. The Flight Challenge is a fun, creative way for students to learn about a career in aerospace ultimately strengthening the talent pipeline in Michigan. A virtual kick-off zoom meeting to meet some of the mentors and ask questions about the Flight Challenge will be hosted on Saturday, Oct. 7 and participants will deliver final presentations virtually on Nov. 4. Top teams can expect to win prizes of up to $1000 in Barnes and Noble Gift cards to spend on books, STEM activities, games etc.!

Continental’s developed the recovery of carbon black (rCB) which is recycled from old tires and used in new tire production. Continental has a goal of utilizing 100 sustainable materials in their tire production by 2050.

Opportunity to Connect Business Skill Needs with Academia

We are pleased to share with you an initiative through the University of Michigan Flint, designed to connect small to medium enterprises with academic leadership. This opportunity will give business leaders a chance to share their talent and skill needs and explore how the University can play a role in addressing those needs through workforce development and uptraining workers. Roy Barnes, Ph.D., Director of Accelerated Online Degree Completion Program at the University of Michigan Flint, will be scheduling 30-45 minute appointments.
The next session is coming up on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, at Automation Alley in Troy. Other upcoming dates include: Nov. 14 and Dec. 19.
