Oakland County, Michigan sent this bulletin at 11/07/2022 09:58 AM ESTThis email is being sent to VFC, Non-VFC and Covid-19 Providers in Oakland County, Michigan by the Oakland County Health Division (OCHD) Immunization Action Plan (IAP)

Good morning,
The MDHHS Division of Immunization has prepared the attached report to monitor the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on non-COVID non-Influenza immunization administration and reporting patterns to the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) and the resulting effect on immunization coverage estimates. The report contains child and adolescent coverage estimates, public dose ordering trends and dose administration reporting trends. You may use this report to inform providers of observations at the state and regional level to emphasize the importance of routine immunization services in the prevention of disease, especially among young children.
Key Points:
- As of September 30th, 2022, MCIR data show that the vaccination coverage for children under 2 years at milestone ages has increased for 3, 5, 16, and 24-month age groups since June 2022. However, there is a decrease in coverage from the last quarter for 7- and 19-month-old kids.
- Statewide coverage for children 19 through 35 months with the 43133142 series as of September 2022 remains about 3.5 percentage points below pre-pandemic levels.
- Statewide coverage for adolescents 13 through 17 years of age for the 1323213 series fell by less than 1 percentage point from 43.2% in Jan 2020 just before the pandemic to 42.9% in September 2022. Coverage for the same series without HPV fell by more than 4% from 77% in Jan 2020 to 72.8% in March 2022.
- The pandemic has exacerbated an existing disparity in 4313314 series coverage between children aged 19-35 months enrolled in Medicaid and their peers who are not enrolled in Medicaid.
- Comparing the total number of doses administered in January-September 2022 to the January-September, 2018-19 average, we find that the overall number of non-COVID doses administered lags pre-pandemic levels by 11.5%.
- Additional key points are listed in the attached report.
We recognize that this pandemic is affecting immunization services differently across providers and the state. The Division of Immunization created a new website to support immunization providers in the context of COVID-19: www.Michigan.gov/VaccinesDuringCOVID.
Thank you for your continued efforts to keep Michiganders healthy!
