Michigan Film Office Update 03/02/12
A quick update from the Michigan Film Office…first, our 2011 annual report is online now.  Please click here to download.
We are excited to announce that the MEDC Compliance Division has hired Carol Apczynski to work on film audits and application review.  She will report to the Director of MEDC Compliance, Marna Wilson.  She comes to us with a depth of production accounting experience and we are thrilled she will be working with us.
We’ve received 8 applications so far this year and are receiving calls every day from interested producers. Between these and the audits that are coming in daily, Carol has hit the ground running!
We are working diligently to attract good projects to Michigan.  I mentioned in my last update that I spent a week in LA speaking to studios, producers, and industry leaders talking about the world class infrastructure, skilled workforce, and diverse locations that Michigan has to offer.
We’ve placed an ad in Variety and ran a print and digital ad with Hollywood Reporter. We are continuing to look at other advertising opportunities.  I participated in an industry wide webinar on film incentives hosted by Variety and Entertainment Partners last week.  We are providing promotional materials for the Game Developers Conference being held next week in San Francisco and South by Southwest in Austin.
We are planning to have a booth again this year at the Association of Film Commissioners International Locations Trade Show.  We are also still in the planning stages for additional attraction events in both LA and Michigan.  We recognize the need to reach out to the industry, here in Michigan and in Hollywood, to let folks know Michigan is still in business and are being aggressive in doing so.
Our next Michigan Film Office Advisory Council meeting will be next Friday, March 9th at the Uptown Film Festival. Click here for details on the meeting.  We hope you can make it!
Speaking of film festivals…the Michigan Film Office is a proud sponsor of two great festivals this month--the Uptown Film Festival and the 50th Ann Arbor Film Festival.  Click on either festival name more information. I will be on two panels at the Uptown Film Festival on Saturday morning and I’d love to see you there!
Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns. We are at your service.
Best,
Carrie Jones, Director
