Hi there,
We are proud that the state’s COVID-19 vaccine dashboard reports 599,735 doses have been given to Oakland County residents by all providers including 176,073 doses administered by Oakland County. These outcomes would not be possible without the hard work of our public health staff and partners.
Monday, April 5 marks the start of National Public Health Week (NPHW). Making communities safe and healthy has always been our top priority. Examples like responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, not only showcases the work of public health, but stresses the importance of a strong public health system.
The Health Division employs hundreds of employees who have sprung into action against COVID-19 and continue to dedicate their time and energy to everyone living, working or visiting our county. We also have staff working with us from other county departments and partnering organizations.
This amazing team quickly adapted to changing daily work tasks - whether it be working at a COVID-19 testing or vaccination site in all kinds of weather; answering hundreds of daily phone calls from the public; or making sure essential services like WIC, clinic and environmental health were maintained.
Next week during NPHW, if you receive your vaccine at one of our sites, join me in thanking our public health employees. Your kind words and positive feedback go a long way to keep us going!
Speaking of vaccine sites, we often get questions about what to expect at your appointment. Over the next two weeks, our weekly Vaccine Update video features walk-thru’s at a drive-thru and indoor vaccination location:
In good health,

Vaccine eligibility in Michigan broadens April 5
Beginning Monday, April 5, the people eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine in Michigan will expand to include all individuals age 16 and up.
While vaccine supplies have slowly increased, hundreds of thousands of people are left to vaccinate in Oakland County. Even if you are now eligible, there is still a waitlist for available appointments.
The Health Division will continue to prioritize vaccination of individuals who live and work in Oakland County based on highest risk, including older adults, disability/medical conditions, essential/frontline workers and residents who may have more difficulty accessing vaccine.
Vaccination of one eligible priority group may not be complete before vaccination of another group begins. Appointment invitations are sent directly to those signed up on the Save Your Spot list by priority eligibility group and the time of sign-up.
Individuals 16 and 17 years of age must receive the Pfizer vaccine only. Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines are available for those 18 years and older.
Visit oaklandcountyvaccine.com to view who Oakland County Health Division is currently vaccinating. The state’s vaccine prioritization guidelines can be found on Michigan’s COVID-19 website.
Transportation to Vaccine Clinics with SMART
Oakland County and SMART have teamed up to provide easy access to COVID-19 vaccinations for those who need transportation to and from their scheduled vaccine appointment. Any resident who has transportation needs should call 1-800-848-5533 to schedule their transportation to and from the clinic when they receive their confirmation email for their scheduled vaccine appointment. Health Division staff then contacts SMART to arrange transportation directly with the client.
