Hi there,
It’s hard to believe this week marks one year since the first COVID-19 case was reported in Oakland County. Our thoughts are first and foremost remembering those we lost, but also showing gratitude to us coming together stronger. Explore how Oakland County is paying tribute through various activities this month.
While we were bracing for this new virus, and our health department was experienced in responding to emerging disease outbreaks, COVID-19 was something that we knew very little about. We didn’t fully understand its origin, how it spread or how to treat it.
This week, Oakland County Executive David Coulter, myself and other county leaders reflect and discuss how we have progressed. Take a few minutes to watch our weekly Vaccine Update video.
What resulted is community resiliency. Moving forward we face a momentous task aimed at vaccinating entire populations. We will continue to develop new partnerships to vaccinate people quickly, share resources like never before and ensure equity in our vaccine distribution.
We are proud that the state’s COVID-19 vaccine dashboard reports 379,343 doses have been given to Oakland County residents by all providers including 94,224 doses administered by Oakland County.
I sincerely thank my staff, healthcare workers, local businesses, schools, community partners and all of you for the many successes. There will be many more achievements to come!
In good health,
Leigh-Anne Stafford Director, Health and Human Services
CDC releases new guidelines for fully vaccinated individuals
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new information about some activities fully vaccinated people can do safely.
You are considered fully vaccinated: 2 weeks after a second dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or after a single dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine. If it’s been less than 2 weeks since your shot or you still need your second dose, you are not yet fully protected.
If you’ve been fully vaccinated:
- You can gather indoors with fully vaccinated people without wearing a mask.
- You can gather indoors with unvaccinated people from one other household without masks, unless any of those people or anyone they live with has an increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19.
- If you’ve been around someone who has COVID-19, you do not need to stay away from others or get tested unless you have symptoms.
Keep taking precautions in public places like wearing a mask, staying 6 feet apart from others, avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces, following travel recommendations and watching for symptoms of COVID-19 until we know more about how vaccines affect the spread of COVID-19.
Homebound Seniors and Long-Term Care Center Vaccination Program Launched
We are partnering with Ready Nursing Solutions to help the county give COVID-19 vaccine to homebound seniors and long-term care (LTC) staff and residents that still need vaccination.

To register online, go to GetReadyVaccine.com and complete the Patient Intake Form. Select “Oakland County Residents – Homebound” on the intake form dropdown menu. The homebound senior must meet State of Michigan eligibility requirements.
New vaccine distribution partners added
Vaccination efforts are happening at multiple levels, including our hospitals, Oakland County Health Division, pharmacies, and federally qualified health centers who are approved vaccine providers. The Health Division recently added more vaccine distribution partners to now include:
- Ascension Health
- Beaumont Health
- Honor Community Health
- Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital
- Meijer
- St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital
These organizations and many others help us vaccinate more people in Oakland County each week. If you are on our Save Your Spot list, you may be contacted to book an appointment with one of these organizations in collaboration with Oakland County Health Division.
