Hi there,
We were happy to have no vaccine shipment delays this week despite notice that last week’s inclement weather might deliveries. We added over 8,400 new appointments from our Save Your Spot list focused on individuals age 65 or older, healthcare workers and teachers. These appointments are in addition to existing appointments already scheduled.
The state’s COVID-19 vaccine dashboard reports 277,112 doses have been given to Oakland County residents including 54,891 doses administered by Oakland County Health Division and 131,140 doses provided to Oakland County residents over the age of 65. This is 47% of all the doses given to Oakland County residents. Oakland County is also cited on the state dashboard as the highest county in the state for doses administered. We are very proud of this collective achievement by all vaccination providers in our county.
We are working hard to support different needs at our vaccine sites, including: the availability of wheelchairs and staff to transport those who need help through an indoor site; drive-thru sites so individuals that need assistance don’t need to exit their vehicle; and access to translators onsite for interpretation services.
Please take a few minutes and watch our weekly Vaccine Update video for more information about how Oakland County is progressing with our vaccination efforts.
We look forward to serving you as soon as possible if we haven’t already. Thank you for your support!
In good health,
Leigh-Anne Stafford, Director of Health and Human Services
Partnerships increase vaccination opportunities
Oakland County aims to maintain and increase its robust capability to vaccinate residents. The Health Division has launched a network of COVID vaccine partnerships that will assist in distributing the doses received from the state each week. This network will expand the availability of vaccination locations and appointments.
Beaumont Hospital, Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, Honor Community Health, Meijer, and St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital are Oakland County’s current COVID vaccine provider partners and the Health Division is working to expand the number of partners. To become a part of the partnership, the provider must agree to administer at least 90 percent of the vaccine the county distributes to them within a week. Partners also commit to target current priority groups like 65 years or older by using their own network to increase access to people within their service areas.
In addition, the Health Division receives assistance at many vaccination sites from the National Guard and local medical students from various universities. These partnerships ensure smooth operations and essential staffing capacity.
Oakland County has the capacity to administer up to 20,000 doses of COVID vaccine a week. Once this supply is available, it will take these public-private partnerships to ensure we can vaccinate residents quickly.
Michigan’s COVID-19 Vaccine Dashboard
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services tracks vaccine information on its COVID-19 Vaccination Information Dashboard. Information can be sorted by county which captures a collective picture of vaccination outcomes by all providers in Oakland County. Examples of available county-level data include:
- Doses administered by age, dose number and gender
- Vaccine distribution and trends
- Number of enrolled providers
- Vaccine coverage by county
The Oakland County Vaccination Dashboard provides data about doses received and administered by only the Oakland County Health Division.
Video showcase vaccination experience
Last week, Oakland County Executive David Coulter unveiled a project to produce videos to help increase confidence for residents receiving the vaccine. Designed for sharing on social media, the videos feature Oakland County residents receiving their vaccines from the Health Division and talking about their positive experience at one of several county-operated vaccination sites. View the videos on the Health Division Facebook page. The county has produced three videos in the past week and will be posting more in the weeks ahead.
