Try platform tennis this winter season
Learn all about platform tennis during a FREE Platform Tennis Open House from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10 at Waterford Oaks County Park. This clinic is an opportunity to test drive the sport and experience the thrill of play up close and in action.
Instruction will be provided by Waterford Oaks Paddle Club. Dress for the weather; tennis shoes required. Equipment will be available for first-time players or those that do not have their own paddles or paddle balls.
Platform tennis is the only racquet sport played outdoors in colder weather because after snow is removed, the courts’ special floor heating units provide a dry playing surface. It is an American racquet sport played by people of all ages.
Several platform tennis leagues are held at Waterford Oaks County Park throughout the season. Open play is also scheduled on the weekends.
Membership is required for season play, but not the open house. Fees include the cost of the lights, heaters and access to the warming building. There is no additional charge for court time. Click here for a membership application.
Trial memberships for new members are also available for a half season. The first season is October to mid-January and the second season is mid-January to April.
The Waterford Oaks Platform Tennis Courts are located at 1702 Scott Lake Road in Waterford. For more information, call 248-858-0916 or contact Paddle Club Coordinator Jay Reynolds at 248-645-9671.
Masks are encouraged for outdoor programs and staff will wear masks. Program may be cancelled if weather is inclement.
