Enjoy a guided trail hike at Red Oaks County Park
Register to join a 45-minute guided trail hike on Sept. 25-26 at Red Oaks Nature Center. With Covid-19 limiting certain types of programs and interactions, Oakland County Parks and Recreation is finding creative ways to provide safe nature experiences for residents.
After meeting at the white tent near Red Oaks Nature Center, a naturalist will lead an informative hike during which participants will learn about seasonal plants and animals while getting some exercise and enjoying the great outdoors.
Up to three family groups will be admitted per time slot for social distancing. Times are available on a first-come, first-served basis: Friday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m.; 11 a.m.; and 2 p.m. and on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 10 a.m.; 11 a.m.; and 2 p.m. The program is free, but you must pre-register by calling 248-858-0916 during regular business hours.
Masks are encouraged for trail programs and staff will wear masks. Screening questions and touchless temperature checks will be required upon arrival. Check in at the white tent near the nature center, dress for the outdoors and be sure to pack bug spray and water bottles for your family. Program may be cancelled if weather is inclement.
Red Oaks Nature Center
Red Oaks Nature Center is located 30300 Hales St. in Madison Heights. The center offers family nature programs, exhibits including native live animals and classroom space. It is also linked to a trail system for visitors to explore the outdoors. Check website or postings at the nature center for current walk-in hours.
