Providing a safe shopping experience

Early summer is a popular time to shop at the Oakland County Farmers Market, especially when everyone is looking to spruce up their yards over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

This year, due to COVID-19, shoppers need to strategize the best day to visit the market, according to Market Manger Jeremy Brown. Due to larger crowds on Saturdays, Oakland County has closed the parking lots at the Road Commission for Oakland County and the L. Brooks Patterson Executive Office Building.

“Our main priority is providing a safe environment for our vendors, staff and shoppers,” Brown said. “So, we are limiting parking to just the farmers market lot.”

The best days to visit the market are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, according to Brown. The Sunday market runs through June.

“Flowers and plants are there every day we are open. Shoppers will find a large variety of annuals whether in flats, pots or hanging baskets, perennials from grasses to hostas for sun and shade, vegetable starters including tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, strawberries and more. We also have herb starters including basil, thyme, rosemary,” Brown said. “Personal hygiene products are available from Forever Summer Natural Soaps and Bunny's Breath Apothecary. And Redwood Grill is there serving takeout with things like ribs, pulled pork nachos and daily specials.”

The market is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays 7 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and Sundays 8 a.m.-noon.

Shoppers are required to wear masks inside the market and strongly encouraged to wear them on site. The number of guests and vendors in the building at one time will be limited to less than 50. Hand sanitizing stations will be provided on site.
