Welcome to my district update. On a monthly basis, I will be sending updates on some of the things that affect you as a constituent of District 9.
The county has created several resources related to the coronavirus outbreak. Take a look at the list below for where to find the latest information:
-
Text updates on COVID-19 are available for residents. Those interested can text OAKGOV to 28748 for the Oakland County Health Division’s latest on the pandemic.
- The county’s Help Hotline is available at 248-858-1000 for residents with non-health-related questions.
-
Oakland County’s COVID-19 web page is being updated regularly. An extensive FAQ and toolkits geared for the public, businesses, faith-based organizations, first responders, food service workers, health care providers, schools and childcare centers, and seniors and senior centers can be found at www.oakgov.com/covid. The Oakland County COVID-19 page also links to the CDC, Michigan Department of Health and World Health Organization.
- There is a dashboard of Oakland County COVID-19 cases, which can be found at www.oakgov.com/covid/dashboard.html.
-
Cases by zip code can be found at www.oakgov.com/covid/casesByZip.html. Please note this data is not a complete picture of community exposure, as it only reflects actual test results and testing capacity has been limited to date.
- County Executive David Coulter is hosting regular Facebook Live addresses on the Executive Office, Oakland County, Michigan Facebook page at www.facebook.com/OakGov.EO.
-
The Public Health Oakland Facebook page is sharing information related to COVID-19 and other health tips during this time at www.facebook.com/publichealthOC.
The county website has sections dedicated to resources for workers and businesses during this time.
The “Worker Relief” page of the county’s COVID-19 website has information regarding unemployment benefits, local businesses hiring, family resources and more.
The “Business Relief” page of the website has information regarding grants, loans, guidance on essential workforce and more from federal, state and local governments.
In accordance with Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s executive order, the Board of Commissioners is hosting committee and full board meetings by teleconference.
Members of the public who wish to view the meeting live may do so by visiting www.oakgov.com/boc and clicking “Watch the Board” at the time of the meetings. Recordings of the meetings can also be found on that page once the meeting is over.
Public comment can be submitted online in advance of the meeting or via video/audio during the public comment portion. For instructions on how to submit public comment, and the most up to date meeting schedule, go to www.oakgov.com/boc.
The Board approved a Michigan Economic Development Corporation grant and the creation of the Oakland County Small Business Stabilization Fund to provide working capital to small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic at its meeting on March 31.
The $1.15 million state grant was matched by the county, and an additional $700,000 was dedicated to companies that can shift manufacturing capabilities to produce personal protective equipment such as face masks and gowns.
Small businesses were able apply for grants or loans, depending on their size, to help cover costs like payroll expenses, rent, mortgage payments, utilities and other similar losses or expenses due to the coronavirus outbreak. To apply, businesses had to demonstrate a loss of income due to the coronavirus outbreak or related state executive orders.
More information about resources available to businesses can be found in the "Business Relief" section of the county’s COVID-19 website at www.oakgov.com/covid.
On Tuesday, March 24, the Oakland County Health Division issued a health order, which builds on Governor Whitmer’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order, for screening employees daily and maintaining social distancing at essential businesses.
The screening includes questions about possible symptoms such as fever, cough or shortness of breath. It also asks whether the employee has traveled domestically or internationally in the past 14 days. Depending on screening results, the employee could be required to stay home for three to 14 days.
Businesses must also develop and implement a plan to manage and control social/physical distancing (at least six foot spacing) for employees working alongside one another and customers waiting in lines within or outside the business. The business should use visual markings and limit building capacity, and they should post the new protocol at the business entrance.
If the public believes businesses are not complying, they can call 888-535-6136.
Oakland County will accept donations of masks (all types), face shields, surgical gowns, surgical gloves, no-touch thermometers and respirators at the Oakland County Farmers Market, 2350 Pontiac Lake Road in Waterford, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.– 5 p.m.
Oakland County will pick up any donated equipment on the list for those who are unable to drop off donations at the Farmers Market.
To donate, please contact the Emergency Operations Center at 248-858-5300 or oakeoc@oakgov.com.
It’s time for residents to complete the 2020 Census.
Census forms can be completed online, and mailing started this March with instructions on how to participate. More information can be found at www.oakgov.com/census2020/.
