Mornings on the Farm
An interactive, on-farm series on vegetable gardening! For beginners and experienced gardeners alike, this series will give you classroom and field-based hands-on experience across a diversity of gardening topics from a seasoned vegetable farmer!
$30 per session.
Workshops are from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. on the indicated dates. While they are currently scheduled to be held at Tollgate Farm, they may be changed to live webinars.
Sessions include ample time to get your gardening questions answered!
March 29 Successful Garden Planning and Transplant Production. Live webinar
May 31 Tips and Tricks for Low Energy Garden Maintenance Weed and water management, pest and disease management. Field demonstrations of weeding tools.
July 12 Summer Crops and Plant Management for Yield and Pest Control Tomato, pepper, cucumber trellising, pruning and maintenance. Field demonstrations of pest management, pruning and trellising.
August 16 Season Extension and Putting the Garden to Bed Season extension, storage crops, cover cropping and mulching. Field demonstrations of extension techniques and mulching.

Master Gardener Society of Oakland County Meeting
April 14 – Fundamentals of Growing Dahlias MGSOC President Lucy Propst will share Fundamentals of Growing Dahlias including: choosing and getting your plants, planting, maintaining your plants, watering and fertilizing, showing your blooms and end of season digging, dividing and storing. It’s a labor of love with a bounty that can be shared.
June 9 – Smart Gardening (A Commercial Greenhouse Point of View) Everything we do has consequences. This especially pertains to how we manage our environmental resources. Being water-wise, planting the correct plant for the specific area, and ensuring it thrives are especially important for the home gardener, but it is increasingly important on a commercial scale.
Meetings are free to MGSOC members, $5 for guests. No preregistration required.
Mini-meals of soup or salads may be purchased for $3.00 and are served at 6 p.m, the business meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Our speakers begin promptly at 7 p.m.

Recognize Your Garden Weeds Tuesday, June 30, 2020 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Weeds in the lawn and garden are an annual part of summer. Dr. Erin Hill will discuss the most common weeds, conditions that promote them, how to manage them, and if they have any value for pollinators. Presentation will be followed by an outdoor "weed walk" to identify garden weeds. Event will occur rain or shine.
Dr. Erin Hill is the Michigan State University Weed Diagnostician at the MSU Plant and Pest Diagnostic Lab.

Tollgate Garden Volunteers
Are you a Master Gardener or a home gardener who wants to expand your experiences and knowledge? MSU Tollgate Gardens are the perfect place for you. Here is the opportunity to continue your education by working side by side with seasoned gardeners. These smart and welcoming people are always happy to share their knowledge.
Being a Tollgate volunteer has many advantages: participating in monthly programs with speakers, sharing your gardening experiences and making new friends. Garden workdays are every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until noon with a hot dog and potato salad lunch provided after the workday.
Tollgate is a 160 acre "oasis" located in the heart of Novi at the corner of Meadowbrook and 12 Mile Roads. Just look for the long white fence.

All are welcome to join the Stage Nature Center's Native Garden Team. Our regularly scheduled work days begin in May on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. - Noon.
Select Saturdays will be scheduled throughout the season.
We have a variety of tasks to choose from with a flexible work schedule:
