Public Workshops scheduled for Historic Preservation 5-Year Plan

SHPO Five-Year Plan

The creation of a five-year statewide historic preservation plan is a federal requirement for state historic preservation offices. The staff of the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) is constantly assessing the opportunities and threats facing historic preservation in Michigan and looking for ways to address them.

Michigan's next five-year statewide historic preservation plan will extend from 2020 through 2025. SHPO is hosting regional workshops across Michigan this spring to give residents a chance to share their vision for historic preservation as part of the historic preservation planning process. Participants will help to identify the threats and opportunities facing Michigan’s historic resources, determine goals and objectives, and set the direction for historic preservation activities throughout the state for the next five years.

The workshops are free and open to the public. They will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Advance registration is requested, using the links below.

• April 30 Grand Rapids Register to attend

• May 21 Detroit Register to attend

• June 11 Traverse City Register to attend

• June 12 Escanaba Register to attend
