Michigan Modern Book Launch Lecture Series at Cranbrook

The Michigan State Historic Preservation Office and the Cranbrook Center for Collections and Research invite you to a free lecture series and debut of the book, Michigan Modern: Design that Shaped America.

This week we present, "Saving a Legacy: Minoru Yamasaki," the second part of the Preserving Michigan Modern lecture series.

This three-part lecture takes place Sunday, October 23, 2016, 3:00pm - 5:00pm, at the Cranbrook Art Museum, and features:

Serenity and Delight: The Architectural Humanism of Yamasaki
Dale Gyure, Professor of Architecture, Lawrence Technological University

Preserving the Yamasaki & Associates Office Records
Mark Harvey, State Archivist, Archives of Michigan

Restoring the Yamasaki Pools, McGregor Memorial Conference Center, Wayne State University
Richard Hess, Senior Associate, Quinn Evans Architects

Parking is available in the museum main lot.

The Preserving Michigan Modern lecture series takes place on the campus of Cranbrook Educational Community, and will cover certain themes through presentations on the designers and landmarks of Michigan modernism, the archives that record these modernist legacies, and the physical preservation of these landmarks.

The book signing on October 30 will include Susan Bandes and her new book, Mid-Michigan Modernism: From Frank Lloyd Wright to Googie. This book, as well as Michigan Modern, will be for sale at the event. Book signing sales benefit the Michigan Modern project, and the Cranbrook Center for Collections and Research.
