The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) and the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) are pleased to announce the availability of the Downtown/Traditional Commercial District National Register of Historic Places Nomination Service.

The SHPO is offering Michigan cities/villages an opportunity to apply for a National Register of Historic Places Nomination Service. The SHPO will hire and pay for a consultant to research and write a nomination, which will result in the downtown or traditional commercial district’s listing in the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places.

Up to three (3) NRHP Nomination Services will be offered for the 2016-2017 fiscal year, depending on the quality of applications received and the projected costs for the selected district nominations.

Eligible cities/villages are ones that do not already have their downtown and/or traditional commercial district listed in the NRHP, or which have a listed district that needs to be expanded.

Additional information, application criteria, and the service application can be found on the SHPO website, www.michigan.gov/shpo, or the application may be downloaded by clicking here.  Applications will be reviewed by the SHPO staff.

The SHPO must receive your application package by 5:00 PM, Friday, September 30, 2016, to be eligible.
