There are only two weeks left before the Michigan Modern: Design that Shaped America symposium, Saturday, May 16, which is being held during the 2015 Michigan Historic Preservation Network (MHPN) Annual Conference. The conference will be held in Midland, Michigan, a showcase of Modern architecture. Modernism-related sessions and tours will take place throughout the conference.
The Saturday symposium features:
- discussions on Midland-based architects Alden B. Dow (Michigan's Architect Laureate), Jackson B. Hallett, Francis D. "Red" Warner, and Robert E. Schwartz;
- an interview with artist Charles Breed;
- presentations on evaluating Modern buildings for historical significance, rehabilitating Modern buildings, and
- a lecture on the innovative construction materials and techniques of the Dow Chemical Company
