The Technology Student Association is administering the Verizon Innovative App Challenge for the third year in a row. Middle school and high school teams have the chance to win Samsung Galaxy tablets, $20,000 for their schools, and the opportunity to be recognized at the 2015 national TSA conference in Dallas, Texas in June. Participation in this STEM competition is EASY. The competition is based on a winning IDEA, not complicated mobile application coding. A dedicated team could create a viable submission in as few as four or five hours. There are currently only two schools from Michigan registered in the competition.
Teachers follow these simple steps:
- Review the Challenge rules and resources at http://appchallenge.tsaweb.org/ and gather a team of 5-7 students.
- Brainstorm about a need in the school or community that relates to the Verizon Foundation focus areas of Education, Healthcare or Sustainability.
- Teams research existing mobile apps and develop an innovative and marketable app concept to address the identified need.
- Teams create a 3-5 minute video describing the app concept idea and answer 5 essay questions about the research, use of STEM and marketability. Submit the video and essay responses via http://appchallenge.tsaweb.org/.
Registration closes on November 24, 2014, so it is time to get started. Read the App Challenge flier or visit http://appchallenge.tsaweb.org/ today for more information. Please contact me with any questions.
