Starting Strong - OpenSciEd PL
On Demand | Free Many teachers begin using OpenSciEd without the opportunity to attend professional learning beforehand. Starting Strong was designed to support those educators—and the school and district leaders who support them—by providing practical, just-in-time guidance as teachers launch their first OpenSciEd unit.
The self-guided experience takes about six hours in total, organized into short modules that fit within planning periods or department meetings. Rather than focusing on theory, each module helps teachers prepare for what they're about to teach, including:
- Preparing for the first unit
- Launching the anchor phenomenon
- Facilitating classroom discussions
- Pacing instruction
- Preparing for the first assessment
Two implementation options are available, each with a one-page facilitation guide and a sample email that leaders can customize and send to teachers:
Teachers who have already begun their first unit can still benefit—the early modules are designed to be completed quickly if they're already underway.
Access the Starting Strong pathway by creating a free OpenSciEd account.
