Stronger Technical Capacity Assistance Grant
Educational Consultant Scott Martin shares from the Office of Health and Safety, Safe and Supportive Schools Unit, a new grant that prioritizes the learning and sharing on topics such as Adult Social Emotional Learning and Self Care, Peer Mentoring, and Youth Mental Health.
Working in partnership with rural and urban school districts who were carefully selected based on their expertise and capacity to create a community of practice to benefit the needs of Adults and Children.
We are pleased to be hosting monthly webinars and free professional development to support our districts in their journey of learning. Following the grant cycle, Michigan Department of Education will use the school districts and their progress to scale best practices through the Michigan Continuous Improvement Process and other learning pathways throughout Michigan.
The districts in the cohort involved include Birmingham, Oxford, Holland, Comstock, Hopkins, Mt. Morris, Ida, Vanderbilt, Brown City, Akron-Fairgrove, and Cass City schools. We are very thankful for the engagement and hard work the school districts will take part in, and we are excited to share the result at the conclusion of the grant.
If you have follow-up questions regarding the grant, please reach out to Scott at MartinS27@Michigan.gov.

Statewide System of Support Survey - Update
The annual Statewide System of Support survey, administered by Basis Policy Research (Basis) on behalf of the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), launched on April 14. The first reminder was sent April 21, with additional reminders scheduled each Tuesday through the close of the survey window.
ISD/ESA partners play an important role in supporting strong and representative participation. Staff who wish to encourage survey completion or communicate directly with recipients are welcome to do so, and Basis can provide survey rosters and sample outreach language upon request (kiel@basispolicyresearch.com). Basis will also share a statewide participation update, including response rates, at the May Collaborative Partners meeting, and can provide follow-up local response information following that meeting.
Within this broader participation effort, this year’s survey includes schools newly identified for CSI status, an important group for understanding early implementation and support needs. Participation from these schools, particularly among building principals in newly identified CSI schools, is especially important to ensure these perspectives are adequately represented in the findings and can inform support strategies for ISDs/ESAs and MDE.

What's New in the MiStrategy Bank?
A new research-informed framework is now available to help schools create safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments. Trauma-Informed Programs and Practices for Schools (TIPPS), developed by the University of Michigan School of Social Work, provides practical tools and guidance to address the impact of trauma on student learning and behavior. TIPPS supports Tier I instruction, behavioral supports, and school climate improvement by building staff awareness, strengthening relationships, and promoting resilience for both students and educators. With a focus on collaborative leadership and continuous improvement, the framework helps districts align practices to improve student engagement and outcomes. Explore TIPPS in the MiStrategy Bank to learn how it can support your MICIP efforts.
If you have questions about how to use the MSB, MDE strategies in the MSB or need a hand with creating your own strategy, please do not hesitate to contact Dave Carlson, MDE-Lead for the MSB, who would be happy to assist you.
