EWIMS Continuous Improvement in action!

We look forward to having you join us! For more information, please email MDE-EWIMS@michigan.gov.

Districts across the state are implementing the Early Warning Intervention and Monitoring System (EWIMS) to leverage data and support secondary students, helping ensure all students are on track for graduation. EWIMS is an evidence-based process that can be leveraged as part of a district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework at the secondary level. Within the process, teams examine academic, behavior, and course performance data to identify students in need of a continuum of supports (provided at Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3), each with demonstrated evidence of effectiveness.

Fundamentally, EWIMS is an ongoing cycle of examining data, identifying students early, and making meaningful decisions about supports and interventions related to what research shows are the key areas that lead to high school graduation. A rigorous impact study found within the first year of implementation, schools that implemented EWIMS with fidelity saw a reduction in chronic absenteeism and course failure. Faria et al., 2017. EWIMS is a strategy that can be selected in the MiStrategy Bank.

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) EWIMS core team facilitates quarterly Implementation Support Network (ISN) meetings. The sessions provide an opportunity for free professional learning to enhance participants’ capacity to support the implementation of EWIMS. Participants learn from schools, districts, and ISDs who are implementing EWIMS and network with others around the state who may be exploring, installing, implementing, or supporting EWIMS.

We welcome you to join us for the next EWIMS Implementation Support Network (ISN) Meeting, to take place on May 8, 2025, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. If interested in attending, use the link below to register.
