The Michigan Department of Education is announcing the availability of funds under Section 1102 of Public Act 121 of 2024 to support the development of a Community Health Worker (CHW) Certification Program. The purpose of the grant is:

  • to create a CHW certification program that meets career and technical education accreditation standards.
  • to create a program that is replicable by other local education agencies (LEAs) or intermediate school districts (ISDs), ensuring scalability and broad impact.

The application for funding to develop a CHW Certification Program is now open in NexSys and can be found under “My Opportunities” on the NexSys Dashboard. The application will close at 11:59 PM EST March 30, 2025. The application is available to LEAs and ISDs within the state of Michigan.    

Grant Application Components

  • Project Description: Explain the scope of the CHW certification program and its impact on the community.
  • Detailed Budget: Include a budget breakdown for hiring staff, curriculum development, materials, accreditation fees, and other necessary expenditures.
  • Timeline: A timeline of major milestones, including development, launch, and expected completion date. The completion date for the project is September 30, 2026.
  • Replication Plan: Outline how the program can be replicated by other LEAs or ISDs.
  • The total funding available for the project is $275,000.
