Enhancing EL Education: A Framework for Comprehensive Evaluation and Improvement
English Learner (EL) program leaders across the state are working collaboratively to develop evaluation tools to support districts in program planning and continuous improvement efforts. These tools will provide districts a systematic way to assess their current level of implementation of required EL program components, make informed decisions about next steps, and implement changes to ensure students are achieving English language proficiency and acquiring content knowledge.
The evaluation process is designed to support the creation of comprehensive plans to move EL programming forward with meaningful improvement goals, strategies, and activities that can be included in a district’s MICIP portfolio. Additionally, the process provides critical components needed for the Section 41 report, a bi-annual requirement for documenting and evaluating EL programs.
A preview of one of the tools can be found here.
MiStrategy Bank (MSB)
The MiStrategy Bank (MSB) continues to be revised and improved. Several strategies receiving updates include:
- PBIS
- SEL (CASEL)
- Family Engagement
- 23g Series and Guaranteed
- Viable Curriculum
If you have incorporated any of those strategies into your MICIP portfolio or are interested in doing so, please check out the changes. Please note, any updates to these strategies will not affect your implementation.
What’s new in the MSB?
If you are looking for solutions to help your district improve graduation rates, be sure to check out the latest MSB addition by MDE. The MDE Graduation Rate Guidance Document has been developed into a strategy! The resource contains a wide variety of information, activities, and contacts to support your district in assisting students with earning that high school diploma. This broad-based strategy was developed with utility in mind and provides many options to help students reach the finish line successfully. To locate this strategy in the MSB, type in “Graduation Rate Guidance Document” in the title filter.
If you have questions about getting access to the MSB, strategies in the MSB or need a hand with creating your own strategy, please do not hesitate to contact Dave Carlson who would be happy to assist you.
