DID YOU KNOW?
The MICIP website was recently updated with systems resources from the Statewide Field Team (SWFT).
The resources support effective implementation of the following: Collaborative Teams, Data-Drive Decision-Making, Educational Equity, Effective Communication, Instructional Leadership Routines, Instructional System, Leadership System, Productive Climate, Student Support Systems, Talent Management, Teacher Collaborative Routines, Continuous Improvement.
MICIP Professional Learning: Concurrency Webinar
With the next enhancement in mid to late February, the platform will reflect a fix to the issue of Concurrency, or multiple people working in the same place in the platform at the same time, using a locking mechanism. MDE recently offered a webinar to explain this fix.
The Concurrency Webinar slides are now on the MICIP website under Current Topics and MDE Resources/Guides and Tools.
To view the notes, click on the orange box in the upper left-hand corner of each slide. We are working on also posting the recording. There is also a Helpful Hints document to assist users with concurrency.
The training environment normally would be updated the day following a release; however, due to the complexity of concurrency of the training environment, that environment will be updated as soon as it is possible. We will send out communication when the training environment is ready.
Collaboration Series
The MICIP Collaboration Series continued on January 17 with a focus on building and organizing teams for continuous improvement work. The session featured a presentation on this topic by Grand Haven Public Schools as well as examples from several attendees. All materials from the Series can be found on the MICIP Collaboration Series dashboard. Anyone is welcome to access the materials whether or not you are attending. The next Collaboration Series will meet from 9:00 – 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 13. You can register at the MICIP Collaboration Series registration link.
User Group
The next MICIP User Group will take place from 9:00 – 10:00 am on Wednesday, February 14.
No registration is required. The meeting can be accessed at the link in the line above.
Save the Date - 2024 MDE Continuous Improvement Conference
As a result of reviewing the feedback from the 2023 Conference as well as previous input, the conference planning committee has identified November 21, 2024, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Lansing as the date and location of the 2024 MDE Continuous Improvement Conference.
The committee is just beginning its work of planning the conference so stay tuned to the Continuous Communication for future details.
Collaborative Partner Meeting
The next Collaborative Partner meeting for those supporting schools identified for additional supports will take place at 9:00 am on Tuesday, February 6.
Registration can be found at this link.
Adult SEL Professional Learning Modules for Districts
As districts look to support student Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), it is important to also find ways to support staff SEL. Michigan Department of Education (MDE) created Professional Learning modules on Adult Social and Emotional Learning. The modules include a facilitator’s guide, a participant playbook, and slide decks for each of the 5 SEL competencies:
- Self-Awareness
- Self-Management
- Social Awareness
- Relationship Skills
- Responsible Decision-Making
Modules include activities that support and strengthen staff social and emotional wellbeing, allow time for self-reflection, and create opportunities to strengthen staff relationships. Modules can be adapted to meet your district’s needs. Please contact Amy Wassmann with any questions at WassmannA1@michigan.gov.

Living Into Continuous Improvement
At the September meeting of the Michigan Continuous Improvement Facilitators Network (MCIFN), attendees were asked to answer the question:
What does it look and sound like to live into continuous improvement?
As part of our Living Into Continuous Improvement theme for this year, we will be sharing these responses in Continuous Communication throughout this academic year. Some of the responses included the following:
- Local context
- Spoken about daily, living and breathing
- Transparent, collaborative, respectfully honest through difficult, safe conversations
- Making the work the work, not just checking the box
- The process for all things the district engages in
