MICIP PlatformLimited Maintenance Goals

On February 2, 2023, MDE released a memo regarding limited maintenance goals. A limited maintenance goal is a former ASSIST goal that will allow districts to monitor it and include it in their SY23-24 consolidated application. It will be limited only to a goal, strategy, and activities that have been previously approved.

The MICIP development team is creating a new platform feature for release by February 28, 2023, where districts can enter the information for the new limited maintenance goals. There will be a limited window of time for districts to enter limited maintenance goals into their MICIP portfolios once the new platform is released. This window will close on June 30, 2023, and after this date districts will only have the option to create active goals or move active goals into maintenance.

Look for more information about limited maintenance goals in February 2023 via the MICIP website, MICIP Continuous Communication Special Edition, and the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) Thursday Communication.

virtual meetingMICIP Collaboration Series

MDE is again offering a four-part MICIP Collaboration Series allowing participants to engage with colleagues across the state as well as with their own district teams in the MICIP process.

The series is intended to address the variation in readiness and capacity for districts across the state to engage in continuous improvement work. It also attempts to value the work districts have put into MICIP over the past several years.

The series provides choices for where to onboard with the learning and provides opportunities for district teams to learn and collaborate around their own MICIP plans.

The intended audience for the series is district and school leaders responsible for continuous improvement. This is inclusive of district and building administrators, teacher leaders, or other school staff. District readiness will dictate which sessions may be most appropriate.

The series will take place on alternate Wednesdays from 8:30—11:30 am using the zoom platform. Session 1 has already been completed, but there are still three more sessions:

  1. Session 2 – February 15, 2023 – Strategies and Activities - The first two hours will focus on strategies and activities while the final optional hour will focus on MICIP and the ’23-’24 Consolidated Application.
  2. Session 3 – March 1, 2023 – Monitoring and Adjusting – There will be two options based on readiness – an introductory level as well as a session for those that already have a good handle on the mechanics.
  3. Session 4 – March 15, 2023 – Two Flexible Options – Teamwork time or topical breakouts based on participant feedback from sessions 1-3.

Participants are welcome to attend the sessions that best fit their readiness and context. The ability to be present at every session is not a requirement for participation.

SCECHs will be offered based on attendance. Series registration can be completed at this link: MICIP 2023 Collaboration Series Registration. You will find the series dashboard at this link: MICIP 2023 Collaboration Series Dashboard.

MICIP for Districts and Schools Identified for Additional Supports

  • 10:00 – 11:00 am, Thursday, February 9
  • 2:00 – 3:00 pm, Wednesday, February 15

This presentation will help districts and schools understand how to use MICIP to meet the requirements for this identification.

The sessions are identical and will be recorded.

This same information will be shared with MDE and ISD personnel supporting these districts and schools at the Collaborative Partner meeting on Wednesday, February 8. More information regarding the Collaborative Partner meeting will be coming soon.

Connection information for both sessions is the same:

checklistRequest for Survey Resources

In addition to talking directly to those represented in data (street data), a number of districts have expressed a desire for survey resources to collect perception data, including from students, staff, parents, community members.

If you have surveys that your school or district has used, consider sharing them with the field. Send them to Ben Boerkoel at boerkoelb@michigan.gov, and we will consider posting them to the MICIP website under Resources from the Field. We will be happy to acknowledge the source.
