Interim Teaching Certificates & Alternative Routes
Interim teaching certificates are granted to teachers who are completing an Alternative Route to Certification pathway. These teachers have a degree and have completed their Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) test in their area of endorsement. They can serve as teacher of record in when placed in classrooms aligned to their areas of endorsement. Student Loan Forgiveness
In the last year, the United States Department of Education has discharged nearly $5 billion dollars to 70,000 borrowers through the revamped Public Service Loan Forgiveness.

Registration is Now Open for May Job Fair
The next Education Workforce Job Fair is scheduled for May 11 at Lansing Community College West. This job fair is hosted by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), in cooperation with the Department of Labor and Opportunity (LEO), to connect job seekers to those hiring teachers, substitute teachers, bus drivers, custodians, paraprofessionals, secretaries, administrators, and other education-related positions.

Free and Low Cost Professional Learning Options
LETRS Training Grant Opportunity for Pre-K to Grade 3 Educators
The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is sharing a professional learning opportunity from section 35a(10) for Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) training grant. This grant is included in section 35a of the state school aid act enacted under Public Act 48 of 2021. This training grant supports the second guiding principle and the second goal of Michigan’s Top 10 Strategic Education Plan. Educators will explore the science of reading and experience deep learning around language acquisition and evidence-based reading instruction to accelerate learning outcomes.
All PreK-Grade 3 educators are encouraged to register. Priority will be given to PreK–1 teachers. Don’t miss this free opportunity! Registration for Cohort 3 opened January 29. The deadline to apply is August 5 (unless all available spots are filled before that date) with a start date in September 2022.
