Do you know someone who wants to be a teacher? They can get a jumpstart on their teacher preparation program with free college credit opportunities now available to Michigan residents.
Modern States Education Alliance and the College Board have partnered with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) to offer Michigan residents free online preparation courses for any of College Board’s College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams – giving Michiganders a chance to earn college credits at Michigan universities and community colleges without taking coursework. Reporting is Required
Michigan Compiled Laws (MCL) 380.1535a(9) require local education agencies (LEAs), both traditional and charter, to report to the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) if they become aware an employee has been convicted of a felony or one of the other offenses enumerated in law. MDE strongly recommends LEAs annually require employees to disclose criminal misconduct.
Great News for Career and Technical Education (CTE) Certificate Holders!
Beginning January 2021, educators who hold a teaching certificate and a CTE certificate will no longer be required to renew two certificates. Endorsements from CTE certificates will be added to standard teaching certificates, and vocational codes will be replaced by endorsements. The newly merged certificate will keep the expiration date of the certificate that expires further in the future.

MEMO #100-20
Believing in the ability of Michigan schools to uplift a community of diverse ideas that recognize and celebrate all the attributes that form children and hold true to the ideal that we are all created equal, MDE is highlighting tools to support districts in reviewing their curricular materials for greater inclusivity and less bias.
MEMO #COVID-19-134
This memo serves as guidance for common questions received by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) related to educator evaluation. MDE has been working closely with several statewide education organizations and will request changes to legislation on issues that school districts are facing during the pandemic. Contact your own state legislators to support this effort.
