Educator Evaluation - "No Eval Emergency Order"
Section IV(8) of Executive Order 2020-65 waived educator evaluation requirements for a large number of teachers for the 2019-20 academic year.
A "No Eval Emergency Order” label does not negatively affect licensure. A communication for educators that explains this in greater detail is located here. Districts can change "No Eval Emergency Order” labels during the Registry of Educational Personnel appeals window (September 1 – December 1, 2020), if necessary.

Reexamining Professional Obligations in a Virtual Classroom Part One
“The beginning of the 2020-2021 school year is undoubtedly unlike any other. ‘There are so many moving parts that I feel like my head is about to spin off my torso,’ replied one high school principal after I asked her about the reopening of school.
“An elementary school administrator told me that she finds herself repeating the same phrase, ‘I don’t have a playbook for this one,’ when responding to the barrage of questions from parents and teachers...” Read more blog posts here.
 Question:
"I am retired, but still work part time, and my certificate expires in 2021. I have not been able to take my usual 6 hours of courses because of COVID-19. Will my license be extended if I don’t get them?"
Answer:
At this time the requirement for 150 Education-Related Professional Learning hours for certificate progression and renewal has not been waived. Educators should assume all 150 hours will be necessary for credential renewal or progression.
Question:
"Should I continue to renew my teaching certificate? I have only worked in education intermittently as a substitute teacher and it is almost time for me to renew again."
Answer:
Whether or not to renew your certificate is an important decision based on your current role in the educational field and personal circumstances. There is no penalty or increased requirement from the Michigan Department of Education for renewal/progression if you allow your credential to lapse for a period of time. A few considerations based on your current situation include: some districts will pay full salary for a credential educator in a substitute role, rather than the daily substitute rate; some positions require a valid certificate for employment as a substitute; renewal fees for annual substitute permits will eventually exceed the cost for a five-year certificate renewal.
