ON THE ROAD WITH TONY...

Welcome to our September newsletter! Fall is in the air, and we are getting closer to the November Election!
First off, we need to take a closer look at how we register Michigan’s potential voters. I am very concerned that information that is given to third-party groups is personally identifiable information that could result in identities being stolen.
Make sure that if you are not already registered to vote, to visit your local clerk, and either register in person or drop off or mail your application directly to that office.
See the Macomb Daily feature below and the related video.
Next, searching Register of Deeds documents by property location on our Clerk's Office web site has become much easier, thanks to our ground-breaking “Tract Index” project. We've been working for some time to finally allow for property-based searches instead of name-based ones to help you find your property records more easily! Please see the related article below.
And finally, Early Voting for the November Election starts Saturday, Oct. 24 and ends Sunday, Nov. 1. You can find your Early Voting location by visiting macombgov.org/early-voting
Please see the article below, to discover all the great features of our Election Department web site!

Macomb Daily: Macomb County clerk questions third-party voter-registration submissions
By Jameson Cook | jcook@medianewsgroup.com | Macomb Daily PUBLISHED: September 23, 2026 at 5:39 PM EDT
Macomb County’s top election official said he and staffers “have become alarmed” at the high number of voter-registration applications the office has received in recent weeks from third parties, concerned the efforts in some cases could be veiled attempts to obtain people’s personal information.
County Clerk Anthony Forlini said at a press conference Wednedsay in the county Elections Division office in Mount Clemens that about 5,000 voter-registration applications have been dropped off at his office in recent weeks, but roughly about 90% of the forms are defective primarily because the people are already registered. Election clerks from four Macomb County communities said they also have received a large number.
The submissions have raised concerns about exposing people’s personal information because he believes the informal nature of the process makes it ripe for abuse, Forlini said. There are no standards for people or groups who conduct voter-registration drives, he said. Some of those who collect them are believed to be paid per-submission.

GROUND-BREAKING 'PROPERTY SPINE'
Clerk's Office Launches Property Search 'Tract Index' Project
During September, searching through 9 million online Register of Deeds documents by property location became much easier, thanks to the ground-breaking “Tract Index” project.
Clerk Forlini and his staff have been working to allow for property-based searches instead of name-based ones.
One of the major challenges was addressing the 9 million historical land records already hosted by the Macomb County Clerk/Register of Deeds department. By leveraging data analytics, the project achieved a cost savings of $12 million, avoiding the need for a large team of manual indexers, which would have taken over 30 years.
The most recent update to the project added new property search terms to approximately 1 million documents that previously couldn’t be searched by location, including subdivision names, lot numbers, city names, and more.
Starting Monday, Sept. 14, the Property Spine transformed the Online Search experience. By connecting parcel IDs, addresses, and platted legal descriptions to the same property record, users can find accurate, complete results no matter how they choose to search.
“This solution will immediately benefit all users that need to find real estate documents, including Macomb County residents and real estate related businesses. Also, six County departments and our local municipalities that depend on our records will find the project invaluable. We're literally improving how our government works," said Clerk Forlini.
An advanced subscription and online login will be required to search by property information.
