Voters have several options to securely return their completed and signed absentee ballot envelope for the 2026 Primary Election.  The Primary Election is Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Absentee voting allows voters to request a ballot by mail, online, or in person at their local clerk’s office. Voters can complete their absentee ballot at home or at their local clerk’s office and submit it in an envelope by mail, in person, or by drop box.

Absentee voters also have the option to take their completed absentee ballot to their early voting site or their polling place on Election Day and insert it directly into the tabulator.

Harrison Township Public Library Annual "Summer Reading Kickoff"

Clerk Forlini grilling hot dogs

The Harrison Township Public Library held their annual "Summer Reading Kickoff" over the weekend. Every year, I’m happy to sponsor and cook up the hot dogs for the attendees. In the early days, we may have served up 70 hot dogs, but this year we grilled a record-breaking 250 hot dogs. I can’t do this forever, so I had my granddaughters in grill master training!

Harrison Twp. Clerk Adam Wit 2026 MAMC 'Township Clerk of the Year'

Clerk Forlini and Harrison Twp. Clerk Adam Wit

I want to personally congratulate Harrison Township Clerk Adam Wit on being named the 2026 Township Clerk of the Year by the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks.

More than 20 years ago, I had the privilege of hiring Adam right out of college after he earned his bachelor's degree in history from Michigan State University. He came to work as my Deputy Supervisor then later for Supervisor Ken Verkest, and it didn't take long to recognize that he had the character, work ethic, and dedication to public service that would lead to great things.

To be recognized by your peers from across Michigan is one of the highest honors a clerk can receive. With more than 1,200 townships in our state, this award speaks volumes about the respect Adam has earned and the outstanding job he has done serving the residents of Harrison Township.

Adam, I couldn't be happier for you. Watching your career grow from those early days to becoming one of Michigan's most respected clerks has been incredibly rewarding. This recognition is well deserved, and I know it is only the latest of many accomplishments to come. Congratulations on this outstanding honor.

DBA's FILED AT THE COUNTY LEVEL

How to Register Your New Business

Start a business light bulb

At the Macomb County Clerk's Office, residents can register (or renew) a business under an assumed name. This registration is also known as a "DBA" (Doing Business As). Applicants will file as a "Sole Proprietorship" (one owner) or a "Co-Partnership" (two or more owners). The fee is $10 to register a business name.

You must be at least 18 years of age to file a business registration. Business registrations are valid for five years.

Corporations and LLCs (Limited Liability Company) are formed through the State. You do not want to be registered with both the County and the State, because that would be two different legal structures with two different levels of liability. Choose one or the other, not both. If you have a partnership, it is strongly recommended that you have a written agreement no matter what your legal structure may be.

The Macomb County Small Business & Technology Development Center (SBDC) provides assistance to new and existing business owners. Many of their services are free, including seminars and confidential one-on-one consulting with trained business counselors. These business counselors can help you with developing business plans, financing, marketing, or any other issues your business may be facing. Visit their website at sbdcmichigan.org/

To register for Michigan business taxes or obtain a Michigan Sales Tax License, contact the Michigan Department of Treasury online at michigan.gov/treasury or call 517-636-4660.

For application forms and more information, visit the Clerk's Office website at macombgov.org/clerk/business-registrations
