ON THE ROAD WITH TONY...
Welcome to our September newsletter!
September is a busy month beginning with many events around Macomb County during Labor Day Weekend. County residents flock to traditional events like the Romeo Peach Festival, as well as a new tradition in Warren – the Warren Polish Day Parade.
I was fortunate to attend a ceremony, where former U.S. Congressman David Bonior was honored with a magnificent tree sculpture in Mount Clemens as well as the renaming of "Freedom Trail" (which runs along Metropolitan Parkway) to "David Bonior Trail.”
During September, our Election Department has been busy preparing for the upcoming November 7, 2023 General Election, which includes several local communities in Macomb County. See below ("November 7, 2023 Election") to see if you live in one of these communities, and get out and vote!
Lastly, we know Jury Service comes with a bit of anxiety for some people. We created a video in an attempt to take away some of the mystery and put jurors at ease. Please see our “Call to Jury Duty.” video feature below or CLICK HERE.

Former U.S. Congressman David Bonior Honored With Tree Sculpture, Trail

Some of you may know that I am a huge bike trail advocate. Former U.S. Congressman David Bonior was honored with a large tree sculpture (right), which will be located at the corner of northbound Gratiot Avenue and Wellington Crescent, just outside of Mount Clemens on the banks of the Clinton River. Also, the "Freedom Trail," which runs along Metropolitan Parkway, has been renamed the "David Bonior Trail" at a ceremony held the morning of Sept. 9.
When I was Harrison Township Supervisor, our board approved a plan we had put forward to connect all of our neighborhoods in Harrison Township to the bike path system. This money was secured by funding that then Congresswoman Candice Miller brought to us from Washington D.C. Today you can safely travel by bike throughout the community and many miles through Macomb County.

Warren Polish Day Parade
From left: Macomb County Treasurer Lawrence Rocca, Warren Mayor James Fouts and Macomb County Clerk Anthony G. Forlini at the annual Warren Polish Day Parade, which moved from Hamtramck to the City of Warren this year. The parade, traditionally held on Labor Day, was a part of the birthday celebration for the City of Warren.

Romeo Peach Festival
Clerk Forlini attended the kickoff of the 92nd annual Romeo Peach Festival, held over Labor Day weekend. The annual event features local agriculture, art, food, products, music and carnival rides. One of the attractions was the “Beers Around the World and Refreshments” tent. In one of the photos I am seen holding an Italian Beer as well as a Czechoslovakian beer -- as a tribute to my heritage as well as my wife's. What a peachy keen time!

Remembering 9-11
Clinton Township annually puts on a wonderful event on remembering 9-11. Although the crowds have dwindled, Supervisor Cannon committed to doing the program again next year.

Newly Renovated Mount Clemens Library
Did you know that the Mount Clemens Public Library is the second longest continuously running library in the state of Michigan. (Detroit is number one by just a couple months.) On September 28, we rededicated the newly renovated library on Cass with Mayor Laura Kropp. |
