Michigan’s workforce development system is delivering results. During 2025, The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) and its partners provided workforce development services to more than 290,000 Michiganders — the most in the Midwest — while helping more than 11,000 businesses recruit and retain talent.

Michigan Rehabilitation Services provides vocational rehabilitation services for eligible individuals with disabilities that are customized to fit their unique strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities and interests.
MRS works with each person to create a plan that outlines their career goals and the services they need to reach them, such as counseling, training, job supports, and assistive technology.

Adult Education & Family Literacy Week is celebrated annually to highlight the fact that adults without a high school diploma are twice as likely to be unemployed, three times as likely to live in poverty, and four times as likely to be in poor health.
Adult Education and family literacy programs prepare youth, families and adults to have the academic, technical, literacy and employability skills to participate fully in their communities and careers.

The Michigan Center for Data and Analytics has released the state’s latest “Hot 50” and “Career Outlook” publications. Both reports provide information on careers that will be in the highest demand in Michigan through 2034.
The 2026 Michigan’s Hot 50 Job Outlook highlights the top high-demand, high-wage careers through 2034. The career information includes job titles, projected annual openings, hourly wage range, job growth information, and the education or training level needed.
The 2026 Michigan’s Career Outlook publication includes the highest-demand jobs based on education level and features the top jobs in science, technology, engineering, and math careers.

Gaining Early Awareness & Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a college access initiative designed to increase the number of economically-disadvantaged students who are prepared to enter postsecondary education.
To spotlight the program’s success in improving educational outcomes for millions of low-income, minority and disadvantaged students across the country, Michigan will join the rest of the country in celebrating National GEAR UP Week on Sept. 21-25, 2026.
Michigan GEAR UP strengthens students’ academic skills and readiness for postsecondary education by offering a variety of services throughout the student’s educational career and progression in the program – from their 7th grade to their first year of college. Those services include college visits, in-school workshops, tutoring, mentoring and summer camps.
