Data & Coordination

Structural Barriers
The Michigan Poverty Task Force has published their 2026 report, which explores opportunities to increase employment, reduce barriers to economic mobility, expand access to affordable housing, strengthen supports for youth, and improve Michigan’s social safety net. They have seen significant results through this work, such as boosting Michigan’s Earned Income Tax Credit match rate, expanding the availability of free school meals, and establishing a consistent funding source for the Michigan Housing and Community Development Fund. Learn more about their recent wins and recommendations by reading the full report.
Training, Curriculum & Career Readiness
Targeted interviews with employers and educators are taking place throughout the summer to further inform this work. If you know of employers or educators who should be included, please contact the team at LEO-MI-Auto-Workforce-Hub@michigan.gov.
Please note that the July Training, Curriculum & Career Readiness workgroup meeting will be cancelled as a result of the grant review process.
The Community & Worker Economic Transition Office is excited to announce the launch of the Community Transition Playbook, a practical resource that provides communities with tools and guidance to prepare for economic changes and build strategies to support long-term economic growth.
The playbook will help communities build capacity through:
-
Building strong local coalitions to create and implement economic growth and resilience plans that are tailored to a community’s unique values and identity.
-
Helping communities prepare for economic disruption so they can quickly recover if a local business closes or downsizes.
-
Providing resources to address the long-term challenges that arise when a major source of local jobs and revenue is lost.
