March gives us an opportunity to honor Women’s History Month and recognize the lasting impact of the original “Rosies,” whose work during World War II kept America’s economy strong, supported the war effort and helped shape Michigan into a global manufacturing leader.
LEO is proud to sponsor this year’s Rosie Day event on March 13 (4-7 p.m.) at the Lansing Regional Airport because it shines a spotlight on women in manufacturing in the past, present and future. The celebration also supports ongoing efforts to spark interest in high‑wage, in‑demand skilled trades careers and to encourage more women to enter and advance in fields traditionally dominated by men.

1. Data & Coordination
LEO is drafting policy recommendations for the Auto Workforce Transition Report, based on takeaways from research by the Center for Automotive Research and the Upjohn Institute. At the All-Hub meeting, the group will share a high-level summary of the labor market research and preview corresponding policy recommendations to support auto workers during economic transition. This will be an opportunity to share your perspectives on how we can use this data to drive action across the state and shape future MI Auto Workforce Hub efforts.
2. Structural Barriers
Reliable Rides: Connecting Workers to Jobs is gaining traction! As of mid-February, the playbook has been viewed over 200 times by more than 170 site visitors. Please continue to share this resource with your networks and don’t forget there is a promotional toolkit to support your efforts at the bottom of the webpage.
3. Training, Curriculum & Career Readiness
The workgroup is planning a Skills in Sync roundtable series in April to hear how industry and K12 educators can building stronger school‑industry partnerships across Michigan. The roundtables will include facilitated discussions on best practices and lessons learned to inform the development of regional industry-school consortia pilots. They will also help shape Skills in Sync: A Partnership Playbook for K-12 Educators and Manufacturers, a resource that will be shared statewide later this year.
Join the All-Hub meeting to hear updates on the roundtables, forthcoming pilots and public playbook development.
If you are interested in joining any of the workgroups referenced above, please contact LEO-MI-Auto-Workforce-Hub@Michigan.gov.
Supplier Conversion Grant Program RFP Is Now Open!
Application deadline is April 9
The Michigan Supplier Conversion Grant Program allocated $22.6 million through federal funding made available by the U.S. Department of Energy for small- and medium-sized automotive manufacturers to retool their facilities and retrain their workforce to enter qualified vehicle supply chains (like hybrids).
LEO's Office of Employment and Training is proud to announce an $8 million award from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Industry‑Driven Skills Training Fund. This investment powers the Michigan Industry‑Driven Skills Training Program (MIDSTP), strengthening Michigan’s maritime manufacturing and shipbuilding workforce and driving economic growth across the state.
By upskilling incumbent workers in high‑demand shipbuilding, marine systems, and advanced manufacturing roles, Michigan employers will gain the skilled talent they need to expand and compete. LEO will officially kick off this exciting initiative later this month. Stay tuned for additional updates!
