Celebrations
Since the Hub launched in June 2024, we've welcomed more than 1,000 participants into EV, mobility and advanced manufacturing training programs—and we're thrilled to share that more than half have already completed their courses!
This milestone reflects the dedication of our participants, the strength of our programming, and the collective effort of everyone involved in making the Hub a success. Thank you for being part of this journey as we continue to grow, empower and transform lives through learning.
Here’s to the next 1,000!

We look forward to seeing everyone online tomorrow, September 4 from 1-2:30 p.m. During this quarter’s meeting we will reflect on the mission, strategy and goals for the Hub and discuss how we can align the identity of the Hub moving forward. We will also hear from each workgroup on their ongoing projects. Please come prepared to share:
-
How has the Hub supported or benefited your work?
-
What types of data, resources and/or tools could the Hub prioritize to support your work?
-
What are the biggest automotive workforce challenges you face?

- Data & Coordination
Partners at the Center for Automotive Research (CAR), the Upjohn Institute and the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics (MCDA) are crunching numbers and developing the analysis that will go into the EV Labor Market Report.
During the August meeting, the Data & Coordination workgroup discussed survey questions CAR will ask auto industry decision makers and HR representatives. The results of the survey, along with interviews, will inform the qualitative assessment of how the industry is responding to economic changes and what workforce needs and skills gaps exist.
CAR, Upjohn and MCDA also refined automotive subsectors to expand the level of detail in their analysis. The research team is working toward an early September milestone to have preliminary data on auto sales and production forecasts.
- Structural Barriers
In August, the Structural Barriers workgroup had a robust discussion on the Transportation Barriers Playbook. Contractors from Pont Advisory presented their progress on the playbook and workgroup members provided feedback to ensure the final product will provide a replicable, scalable model that local organizations can easily adopt. They also discussed industry-specific and geographic differences that must be included in the playbook.
The August meeting also included presentations from the Michigan Association of United Ways and the LEO Poverty Task Force. The workgroup learned about barriers facing the Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) community as well as the state’s efforts to support ALICE individuals through the task force.
- Training, Curriculum & Career Readiness
The Training, Curriculum & Career Readiness workgroup spent August researching and writing an initial draft of the K-12 Manufacturing Curriculum Expansion Playbook. The Curriculum Playbook aims to provide resources and guidance for schools to tap into local consortia and implement new manufacturing programs in high schools.
Thank you to everyone who shared their time and expertise through interviews and text reviews over the past several weeks! LEO staff are incorporating this feedback into the draft and developing next steps to implement the Curriculum Playbook through a pilot program.
The Community and Worker Economic Transition Office is now accepting applications online for our Community Growth Academy, an 18-month program that helps Michigan communities plan for long-term economic growth and prepare for future change.
In the cohort, academy members will receive technical assistance designed to support communities with tools and capacity to deploy the Community Transition Playbook and build customized economic growth and resilience strategies unique to their local needs.
We are encouraging municipal governments, nonprofits, community foundations, regional planning or economic development agencies or tribal organizations representing transition-impacted communities to apply.
We hope you'll be able to apply online, or share this opportunity with those who may be good candidates.
