Pre-ETS Corner: Recap
As we wrap up our journey through various Pre-ETS services offered, let's take a moment to celebrate opportunities and activities offered to persons with disabilities nationally. These activities serve as a testament that everyone is entitled to a fulfilling, successful and advantageous life. Below are the various activities and Pre-ETS services highlighted each month.
March: Workplace Readiness Training
Workplace Readiness Training emphasizes the development of transferable work skills. From resume writing to adaptive computer skills training, BSBP is able to help students find success in employment. Some examples include travel, independent living assessments, soft-skills development, fostering independence, and social skills crucial for the workplace.
April: Job Exploration Counseling
Job Exploration Counseling provides insights into various career options and understanding personal interests, values and the skills needed for the pathway ahead. For example, students are able to attend career fairs, job shadowing and vocational assessments.
May: Work-Based Learning
Ever wondered how your classes in school relate to real-life work experiences? Work-Based Learning explores job shadows, internships, and paid or unpaid work experiences that connected our studies to actual experiences.
June: Self-Advocacy
Self-advocacy training provides an opportunity for students to learn about their rights, responsibilities, and how to request accommodations. Through mentoring programs, workshops on goal development, and classes in self-determination, students become promoters of their interests in education, the workplace and the community.
July: Post-Secondary Education
Post Secondary Education offers assistance in college selection, admission processes, and accommodations. From understanding college classrooms to navigating the FAFSA, students can receive support when studying for their vocational goals.
