Tuition-Free College

If you’re thinking about starting or returning to college to prepare for a secure and rewarding career, now’s the time. Michigan Reconnect is a new scholarship program for eligible adults 25 years and older who want to pursue an associate degree or skills certificate.

Michigan Reconnect pays the remaining balance of in-district tuition and mandatory fees after other state and federal financial aid have been applied. Students who attend out-of-district community colleges will receive a large tuition discount.

Returning to school is a big decision. But this is the right time to do it. Find application and additional program information at Michigan.gov/Reconnect.

Investing in Abilities Month

October is Investing in Abilities Month, National Disability Employment Awareness Month

Governor Whitmer proclaimed October as Investing in Abilities Month. For more than 20 years, Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) along with public and private organizations have promoted Investing in Abilities Month to shatter stereotypes and support recognition of all Michiganders as skilled employees. October is also celebrated nationally by the U.S. Department of Labor as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

Both efforts are to promote what can be achieved when employers rightfully recognize persons with disabilities as resourceful employees. In 2020 alone, MRS supported more than 800 businesses with technical guidance and services in hiring and supporting employees with disabilities. They also helped nearly 5,000 residents exit vocational rehabilitation services due to gaining employment.

For more information and to see if you qualify for MRS’s services, go to Michigan.gov/MRS.
