In Academic Year 2024-25, the Office of Higher Education will be sending a month end GovDelivery recapping the communications shared that month. This is not an exhaustive list and we encourage you to review all previous messages.
Thank You for Your Feedback!
- Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the College Partners Survey! We received a total of 86 responses across all institution types.
- Based on your feedback, we will be working to streamline policies, enhance communication, and provide additional training opportunities.
- This fall, MiLEAP’s Office of Higher Education will launch its first-ever Financial Aid Advisory Group. We’ve selected 18 nominees who will be contacted soon. This group will play a vital role in informing policy and expanding access to State financial aid programs.
Academic Year 2024-25 Year End Reminders
- Review Certification Rosters for Fall, Winter, and/or Spring, and Summer for students who are in “Ready to Certify” status. Failure to certify all students by the certification deadline will prevent a payment for these potentially eligible students. All students including enrolled and not enrolled must be certified.
- Review the "Eligible Student Report" for reimbursement programs to determine if a reimbursement request is needed.
-
Final payment date for Academic Year 2024-25 for all State financial aid programs (except Michigan Achievement Skills Scholarship*) is scheduled for August 13, 2025. To be included in the final payment, awards must be certified and reimbursements requested by the deadline of 5:00 p.m. on August 12, 2025.
- *Michigan Achievement Skills Scholarship final payment is scheduled for September 10, 2025.
- Institutions must balance expenditures for State financial aid programs following the final payment for the academic year. Institutions must issue any refunds owed to MI Student Aid no later than September 12, 2025 and complete the MI Student Aid Refund Worksheet.
2025-26 FAFSA Requirements and Identity Verification
- To be eligible for most State financial aid programs, a student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file in MiSSG.
- MiSSG uses the data in the Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) to evaluate eligibility for State financial aid programs and make initial awards. Students should be receiving their State financial aid at the same institution they are receiving their Title IV aid.
- Review which programs require the FAFSA be submitted, completed, and verified (if required).
- Review which programs require the FAFSA be submitted. It does not have to be completed or verified (except identity verification [NEW!] to qualify for these programs).
-
NEW! If a student is selected for identity verification, this process must be completed before any State financial aid can be awarded (including programs that only require a submitted FAFSA). This requirement is in accordance with Federal Student Aid’s Electronic Announcement: APP-25-16.
