You and your closest colleagues are invited to attend the launch of the Michigan Student Basic Needs Task Force Final Report, a statewide initiative aimed at removing barriers that prevent students from completing their postsecondary education and reaching their full potential.
Event Details
Date: Thursday, May 15, 2024 Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Location: Wayne State University, Student Center – Hillberry A-C, 5221 Gullen Mall, Detroit, MI 48202 RSVP Deadline: Space is limited – Please RSVP by Monday, May 12. Lunch will be provided.
About the Event
The event will include remarks from state and higher education leaders—including Wayne State University Provost Dr. Laurie Lauzon Clabo, and MiLEAP Director Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea—as well as a presentation of the Task Force’s 12 priority recommendations to ensure students have consistent access to essential resources like food, housing, mental health care, child care and more.
We will also highlight the innovative work Wayne State University has done to support students’ basic needs, with a guided tour of key campus services at the start of the program. A student panel discussion will offer an opportunity to center student voices, provide real-life context to the report’s recommendations and reflect on how we take this work forward.
This moment is more than a report release—it is a call to action. We need partners like you in the room to help bring these recommendations to life. Your leadership and engagement are critical as we work together to remove obstacles and support all Michigan students in their postsecondary journeys.
We hope you can join us for this important milestone.
If you have any questions about the event, please contact Camara Lewis at lewisc16@michigan.gov.
