New Certification Drop Down Selection for Community Colleges
For students whose ‘Enrollment Status’ is full-time and meets all other eligibility criteria; however, are unable to be awarded Community College Guarantee due to gift aid covering the student’s tuition and fees, the School User must select the ‘Exceeds COA/CCG T&F’ No Award reason to ensure the student receives credit for initiation.
Institutions that have previously used the Exceeds COA reason DO NOT need to make any corrections; MiSSG will track those certifications.
New Tracking Features for 15-Month Initiation
MiSSG now offers two additional ways to streamline identifying the last semester a student has to meet their 15-Month Initiation period.
Individual Student Lookup is now located on the Application Information section of the students’ current year Michigan Achievement Scholarship profile.

High School Completion and Mid-year/Off-cycle Awards Reminder
MI Student Aid has received many inquiries regarding Mid-year and Off-cycle graduates. Please review the following instructions:
Students must complete their high school requirements before the semester/term start date at their institution to be considered for State financial aid. Institutions are responsible for verifying the student met their high school completion requirements prior to the semester/term start date they begin awarding State financial aid.
Example: A student graduated with an official transcript dated 1/3/2025. The institution the student hopes to attend in Spring of 2025 begins their semester 1/12/2025. This student would be eligible to be evaluated for State Aid programs starting in Spring 2025.
If you have identified a student who meets the described criteria, contact the MI Student aid program coordinator with the MiSSG ID and the semester the student should begin eligibility to initiate a system override.
Coming Soon
MiSSG technical manuals are being updated to reflect these additions. A GovDelivery will be sent when they are published.
