Holiday Shopping Tips

Package thefts are an all too common occurrence throughout the country this time of year. The convenience of online shopping and home deliveries provides criminals with opportunities to steal your packages. Thefts usually occur during daytime hours when people are at work or not home. There are measures you can take to reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of this type of crime.
When Shopping Online

  1. “Look for the S”. Make sure the website begins with https://, which indicates a secure consumer site
  2. Protect Your Passwords. Don’t let your browser save your passwords and credit card information on retail or banking sites, especially when using a public computer
  3. Log off. When shopping online, sign off when you’re done, especially if you’re using public WiFi

Plan Your Shipping

  1. Sign up for delivery alerts so you know when your package has been delivered
  2. If you're unable to be home when a package is delivered, ask a trusted neighbor to hold it for you
  3. Consider shipping packages to your place of work, the store or where someone can hold it for you
