Dear Friend,
Last year, we passed the largest education budget with the highest per student investment in Michigan history, – all without raising taxes by a dime. Now, we must build on our bipartisan success and get things done to help students stay on track for long-term success.
In the 2022 education budget, we increased the base per-pupil funding to $9,105, increased funding for special education students, established educator retention programs, delivered dedicated per-student safety and mental health resources and much more, all of which contributed to improving children’s education experiences across the state. This year, I plan to continue investing in our students and educators.
A great education is foundational to future success. We have seen how the last few years have shifted regular learning patterns and getting Michigan students back on their own track to success is going to require more than in-class instruction. That’s why I proposed the MI Kids Back on Track program last year to offer every Michigan child personalized learning support that meets their needs. Together, we can help our kids meet their learning goals with caring, qualified, educators by their side.
Throughout my time in office, I have pushed for our Michigan Legislature to expand preschool to more children. Investments in early childhood education not only improve the health, educational, and social outcomes for children down the line, they also help families save thousands of dollars a year on child care. Quality, affordable preschool give our kids a great start and stay on track for long-term success.
I love hearing from you on how we can help your family succeed. Take a couple minutes and share your story as a parent, an educator, a student, or anyone who is invested in the education system in Michigan. Together, we can ensure that every child in our state has the resources and support to succeed.
