Governor Whitmer on Stellantis Investment of $83 Million at Dundee Engine Complex 

 

LANSING, Mich. – Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer released the following statement after Stellantis announced it will be making a $99 million investment in three plants in North America. The state of Michigan will receive the bulk of the investment, with $83 million going to the Dundee Engine Complex as it retools to build a new four-cylinder turbo engine for their hybrid electric vehicles.  

 

“Today’s $83 million investment from Stellantis at the Dundee Engine Complex is a win for our auto workers and will help us secure the future of hybrid and electric vehicle manufacturing right here in Michigan. Since I took office, we have enacted game-changing economic development legislation that enables us to compete for transformational projects and thousands of jobs. We will build on our auto industry leadership, creating jobs and ushering in a sustainable transportation future by leveraging our innovation and talent. We appreciate our long-standing and continued partnership with Stellantis. Together, we will build on investments like today’s at the Dundee Engine Complex and the historic investment in 2019 to bring the first auto assembly plant to Detroit in 30 years. Let's stay focused on growing our economy, building on our rich automotive legacy, and creating good-paying, high-skill jobs for Michiganders in every region of our state.” 

  

Since 2019, more than 25,000 projected jobs in the automotive and mobility sector have been announced in Michigan. Today’s announcement builds on other recent news of mobility-related investments in the state, including: 

  • Automaker Ford Motor Company investing $2 billion, creating more than 3,200 jobs in plants across Michigan to support EV manufacturing growth and secure internal combustion engine operations in the state 
  • Automotive manufacturer General Motors investing $7 billion, creating 4,000 and retaining 1,000 jobs, to convert Orion Township assembly plant to build full-size EV pickups and build Ultium’s third U.S. battery cell plant in Lansing 
  • High-tech auto electronics manufacturer Gentex investing $300 million, creating more that 500 jobs in West Michigan. 
  • Canadian EV charging network operator and smart charging solutions provider FLO investing $3 million and creating 133 jobs at its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Auburn Hills. 
  • ATESTEO North America, global provider of testing services for EV drivetrains and components, establishing its North American headquarters in East Lansing, investing $27.8 million and creating 46 well-paying jobs
