MAT2 Wins Educational Program of the Year Award

MAT2 logo

Earlier this month, the Michigan Advanced Technician Training (MAT2) program received the Educational Program of the Year Award at the 14th Annual Automation Alley Awards Gala at the MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit.

MAT2 first launched in September 2013 with a mechatronics cohort at Henry Ford College and Oakland Community College. The program was created in order to address two critical issues facing manufacturing and technology employers in Michigan: a widening skills gap and an aging workforce. The 2014 launch of additional cohorts for new occupational programs of technical product design and information technology, in addition to a second cohort for mechatronics, marks the significant amount of progress and momentum that the initiative has gained over the past year.

This past August, new cohorts were launched in coordination with Henry Ford College, Macomb Community College, Oakland Community College, and 24 employers.

New programs are set to be developed for 2015 and beyond, and will include additional academic providers throughout the state, as well as increased involvement from manufacturing and technology companies interested in participating in this innovative and employer-driven educational model.

Applications for the 2015 MAT2 cohorts are now available! High school seniors, recent high school graduates, and anyone with an interest in pursuing a career in manufacturing and technology can learn more about this program and apply by visiting www.mitalent.org/mat2
