 The Michigan State Police are looking for candidates for Trooper and Motor Carrier Officer positions.
Veterans are encouraged to apply for this opportunity to receive elite training toward a rewarding career in law enforcement.
Starting salary is $41,000 and includes police academy training. Excellent health care and retirement benefits are included, and sick leave and vacation time accrue biweekly.

 Register today for an innovative, three-day job matchmaking
event taking place at the
Kirkhof Center on the campus of Grand Valley State University in Allendale March 6 - 8. Ready NOW! is open
to all job seekers but with a special emphasis on opportunities
for west Michigan veterans.
Unlike a traditional job fair, Ready NOW! is designed to foster a common understanding of
expectations between job seekers and employers. Participants work in table teams, attending workshops on team building, resume
writing, career exploration, personal success and presenting a
positive and employable image through mock interviews.

 At the end of the three days, everyone who has fulfilled all event requirements will obtain a Certificate of Completion and the opportunity to interview with a minimum of two participating employers.

Did you know the state of Michigan is ranked 11th in total veteran population but 50th in VA benefit disbursements? You
may be eligible for benefits you don't know exist, or maybe the process
of filing a claim intimidates you. With the help of a new veteran support network, you don't have to face the VA alone.
The Michigan Veterans Coalition has partnered with the Michigan Association of County Veterans Counselors (MACVC) to help file and monitor claims submitted on behalf of the veterans. Service
Officers are located all over the state for the purpose of helping you
successfully navigate the benefit process. Your MACVC Service Officer will help
determine if you qualify for benefits and help you file a claim to
receive them. To schedule an appointment, contact a local MACVC Service Officer near you.

 Enjoy free food, beverages, and give-aways - and find a new job - at the International Trucking School (ITS) Veteran's Job Fair on Friday, March 8 from 12 pm - 3 pm at the ITS corporate offices, 5840 North Canton Center Rd in Canton, MI.
At least ten different carriers will be on-site, all looking to hire veterans for available jobs. ITS also will be recruiting veterans to hire as instructors at their six training locations throughout Michigan.

 The Michigan Department of Human Services and the Jesus Tabernacle of Deliverance Ministries of Detroit are teaming up to help veterans in southeast Michigan learn how to obtain the benefits they've earned through their service to our country.
The two-hour workshop will take place from 3 pm - 5 pm on Thursday, February 28, at the Jesus Tabernacle of Deliverance, 11001 Chalmers Avenue in Detroit.
The event is free and refreshments will be served. Bring a veteran friend and you'll be entered into a drawing for a special prize!

I was born and raised in Flint, Michigan. Upon graduating high school, I had a desire to attend college but did not have the money to pay for classes. I had heard several student loan horror stories, so I knew that a loan was not in my future plans. I’d also heard that the military would help me pay for college, so I visited the local recruiter’s office. After all, my dad is a United States Marine Veteran and two of my cousins served in the Navy. After one visit to the recruiter, I knew the Air Force was the right branch for me. The thought of getting paid for training, free medical coverage, and earning college credits during service was music to my ears. My future had just gotten a whole lot brighter!
Arriving for boot camp was one of the scariest moments of my life. We arrived at Lackland Air Force Base at night and all I can remember is at least 10 male and female drill sergeants lined up and yelling before we could exit the bus. We could barely see their faces due to those big hats. On the first day, the drill sergeant asked a series of questions about our life experiences. He asked if anyone had been a high school queen. The Home Depot Foundation will give one non-profit $25,000 to fund an improvement project with Team Depot volunteers. The competition is down to four organizations and the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans is still in the hunt for the top prize.

 - Secretary of State Ruth Johnson recently announced initiatives to assist veterans, including adding a designation on licenses to better link veterans with the services they've earned, and a new law to allow recently-returned veterans with truck driving experience to skip the skills test portion of Michigan's commercial driver's license application.
