Keynote speaker David Cole, Chairman of AutoHarvest, kicks off the day-long event on Tuesday, February 12 at Macomb Community College in Warren. Livingston Business and Education Alliance to host internship workshop for area employers

The Livingston Business and Education Alliance is inviting area employers to attend Making Internships Work for You, an information session designed to help companies looking to develop, implement, or enhance internship programs. 

The internship workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, February 19, at 3:00 p.m. at the Howell Chamber of Commerce, located at 123 East Washington St. in Howell. You must register by February 12.

MEDC's LiveWorkLaunch! provides ground-floor opportunity to connect with budding entrepreneurs

Last week, MEDC announced LiveWorkLaunch!, a new initiative designed to showcase opportunities for entreprenuerial college graduates looking to build a Michigan-based business. LiveWorkLaunch! helps these entreprenuers connect to the support and capital they need to take an innovative business plan from concept to reality. The event includes a pitch competition with a top prize of $10,000 and a variety of goods and services to help the winning concept get off the ground.

Seeking employers, service providers for Career & Opportunity Expo

Monroe County Community College (MCCC) is seeking employers and service organizations interested in participating in the third annual Career and Opportunity Expo, designed to bring together students, colleges, employers, and community members, and highlight employment opportunities and resources for returning veterans. Last year's event attracted more than 400 job seekers and featured 88 exhibitors.

The Career and Opportunity Expo is scheduled for Friday, April 12 in the Welch Health Education Building on the MCCC Main Campus at 1555 S. Wal-mart has announced plans to hire more than 100,000 veterans over the next five years. "Hiring a veteran can be one of the best decisions any of us can make,” said William S. Simon, president and CEO of Wal-Mart U.S.  “These are leaders with discipline, training and a passion for service.”

WLNS TV6 in Lansing interviewed Veterans' Services Division (VSD) Operations Manager Michael West on the Wal-Mart plan. West praised Wal-Mart for their commitment and pledged to work with the retailer to help them recruit and hire Michigan veterans. View the video here
